The Film Ex Memorandum was credited as the inspiration behind French artists Jacques Prieurs' 2005 illustration: illumination. He said in an interview with VIF "The films haunting themes of loss, pain and ultimately triumph as well as the enduring nature of friendship beyond death stayed with me for several years...." Prieur further highlighting the central location from the film as a key element in his work "...the ominous lighthouse both a symbol of their dark hidden history and also perhaps a light to illuminate the ghosts that cling to their past..."
